The tier table says the Anonymous tier may use \"checkout build/edit tools\"; the Cart MCP page says \"Checkout MCP isn't available without authentication\" and the Checkout MCP page says \"All requests require authentication or a signed request\" (all three re-read 2026-09-20). What this measures is narrower than any of those sentences, and it is a comparison rather than a success: an anonymous create_checkout was not refused for want of a credential and passed through to merchandise validation, failing on the impossible variant id the request deliberately carried, at that item's JSON path; the same anonymous request shape for get_order was refused by name with AuthenticationRequired at the same endpoint in the same minute.
