"finding": "With no credentials, an MCP initialize POST to mcp.ashbyhq.com/mcp/v1 answers 401 with a Bearer challenge naming its protected-resource metadata and the scope it wants (openid mcp offline_access), and a one-word JSON error. The metadata names a dedicated OIDC issuer, mcp-auth.ashbyhq.com/oidc, with the same three scopes. That server advertises dynamic registration, PKCE S256, five token-auth methods including none, and three grants of which one is implicit, the grant OAuth 2.1 removes; whether the MCP flow can use it is not something this probe measures. A keyless GET on the REST API answers 401 with an empty body and no challenge. Same challenge as the 2026-09-13 measurement in the entry's notes; the issuer and the grant list are recorded here for the first time. Nothing here measures what either server does with a credential.",
